The Beauty of Family

In my days of childhood, there were many frightening moments for me. As the oldest child of parents that struggled to exist, I often wondered if there would be a tomorrow for any of my closest relatives, including me.

As I developed into a young woman, married and had children of my own, I looked back over the years of my youth, reflecting on the edge of survival that many of those around me lived on every day.

Now, in my mid-50s, I realize more than ever, that no matter what transpired in my own days of childhood, there is an indelible impression that my family has left on me.

The impression is one of remembrance, of moments where I ventured through many valleys and a few mountaintops that have changed who I am now.

My family has helped me paint a picture of life. God has used them to shape me. For this, I am humbly grateful.

Regardless of any hurts of the past, they are still my family, and I can look at them and see beauty.

How do you view your family?

  1. Beautiful! Having now started a family of my own, I am beginning to realize that family is everything to me. :)

  2. Thank you for your comment Krystal,
It seems as teens and young adults, many times we feel that our family is no part of what we are; however,as we mature, we see that we have so much to learn from them, be it positive or negative. In looking at them, the beauty that is left with us can be ultimately not so much of who they are (which is important), but of who we are because of them.

  3. I view my family as individuals who each have a story worth hearing. I may not always agree with their points of view or actions, but I still love them and... as you say... see beauty.

  4. Some parts of my family are very loving and caring and...some parts are not so loving and caring but they are still my family and I would do anything I could do for them. That's how it should be , unconditional love. There are lots of family memories that I have and treasure. Nothing can replace family, without family a peace of you is missing. Each person or (peace) make a family whole and stronger. Each part or peace of the family sometimes make wrong choices but that's ok because a family should be there for you through thick and thin. When we support our family we form a special bond that can never be broken. That's how I see Family.. :)

  5. Thank you very much saclar6,
I like what you said about "unconditional love" and being "there for you through thick and thin."

Thank you so much for taking your time to comment.
